News from Prostate UK!

I have attached our flier for the March for Men event in Battersea Park. Please circulate as widely as you can, we are aiming for as many people as possible to take part to raise awareness.

Our priority is Black men because Black men are a the highest risk of getting prostate cancer compared to other communities.

We have set up a discount code for anyone who wants to register for the event ‘MFMRESEARCH’ this code will get anyone who wants to take part in the actual event 50% off their reg fee.

If you wish to have a presence at the event and/or space in our event village, please let me know. You can also bring along information/materials to give out to raise awareness of your work. We’re still confirming event timings usually have all event staff and volunteers on site for 9:30am ready for the event village to open from 10am. The walk would then begin at 11am – we’re confirming these timings with our event delivery partner/Battersea Park.

Walk with us and thousands of others on Sunday 23 July in London’s Battersea Park.

Choose from a 2, 5 or 10km route and walk side-by-side for the men you love. One day, one moment, one community supporting men with prostate cancer.

Update from South London Cares!

South London Cares is looking for more volunteers in Streatham for their Love Your Neighbour programme

South London Cares is a community organisation that works to bring together younger and older people across Lambeth and Southwark, to build connection and tackle isolation.

We’ve loved getting to know more older and younger neighbours through our Streatham community. For instance at the Thriving Streatham Autumn Advice Fair a couple of years back we met Sandra, whose late husband used to attend our activities. Since then we’ve matched Sandra with younger local Eleanor on our Love Your Neighbour Programme, and over the past year the pair have been ticking off Sandra’s bucket list of things she’s yet to do – from having a fancy coffee to going out for pizza!

“It's so nice seeing another form of life… It's quite nice mixing with a different age, it's quite important really.” – Sandra (80)

We’re on the lookout for more younger neighbours to volunteer on our Love Your Neighbour programme to build long-lasting, mutual friendships with older neighbours like Sandra. If you or anyone you know would be interested, get in touch. You can contact Programme Coordinator Lauren on lauren.barr@southlondoncares.org.uk or go directly to sign up here: https://southlondoncares.org.uk/get-involved.
