Thriving Streatham: Winter Edition

Updated: Dec 1, 2022

As we wave farewell to November, we rummage for our woolly hats and journey to the last month of 2022!

This blog post will share what the community has been up to and dates for your diaries this festive period!

Thriving Streatham Event

On the 24th of November we hosted our Community Health and Wellbeing event at 2-8 Gracefield Gardens.

Streatham AT Medics PCN and Streatham PCN worked in partnership encouraging patients throughout the neighborhood to gain access to services that can offer emotional or practical support.

The Lambeth wellbeing bus arrived at 10am and Citizens Advice set up an information stall inside the Gracefield Gardens Health and Social center.

We had a range of organisations attend such as:

Neha - NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) Dementia research

Jeanne - Age UK Lambeth and Kehinde- Streatham Youth Community Trust

Wellbeing Ambassadors

Casper - Clear Community Web

Ana - Health Watch Lambeth

Centre 70, Streatham Common Co-operative & Peddle My Wheels.

Our first Mental Health coffee morning started at 11:30am patients were able to share their stories and get support from Social Prescribers Mia and Michaela.

Some patients were signposted to visit the Citizens Advice and Centre 70 services to get advice on the cost of living crisis and housing issues.

A very heartfelt moment was when two patients from separate surgeries bonded over a discussion of loneliness, then decided to walk home together 😊

Many of the patients who attended to coffee morning shared that they would like us to host the coffee mornings regularly so watch this space!

We have a patient pictured below who was able to meet his phone friend from South London Cares in person for the first time!

It was wonderful to see Jeanne Well-being ambassador attend a home visit to help a patient fill a form. We understand that there are other things that impact wellbeing such as help with completing documents.

Citizens advise reports they had over 200 proactive interactions with patients to get support. Later in the afternoon they had to start signposting patients to where they could next receive support as the day ended.

A special thanks to Nurses Dawn and Massimo from Streatham PCN who ran our walk-in Blood Pressure clinic between 2-4pm treating 16 patients.

In summary the day was filled with lots of support given to over 200 patients across Streatham from a diverse age group between 18 - 81.

It was lovely to see people coming together especially where we are dealing with difficult times with the cost of living crisis.

We look forward to planning more Mental Health coffee mornings, Chronic Pain Peer Support sessions and events in new year!

Wellbeing Workshops Sound Bath with Centre 70 and West Norwood Library, Friday 2nd December: ***Limited Availability, email wellbeing@centre70.org.uk to book *** Let the deep resonating vibrations of the gongs wash over you and take you into a place of effortless meditation. What happens during a sound bath? During a sound bath you lie down, make yourself cosy and comfortable, and are ‘bathed’ in waves of sound. You will hear a variety of beautiful instruments all of which are played live: singing bowls, chimes, bells and gongs.

The sounds vary from gentle and lulling to more intense and stimulating. The aim is to take you into a different place - away from your everyday thoughts to somewhere more meditative.

You don’t need to do anything except relax and let the sounds wash over you. We’ll let you know when it's time to come back to the room.
