Thriving Streatham: The November Edition

Updated: Nov 30, 2022

As we wave farewell to November, we rummage for our woolly hats and welcome December!

To find out what the community has been up to and what information you need to save for your diaries this festive period read below now!

Re-engage: Christmas is Coming!

You may know about how Re-engage supports older people throughout the year, but did you know that we have a Christmas-specific support campaign?

Community Christmas helps to make sure that older people have a place to go to celebrate the festive season no one should be alone at Christmas unless they want to be. Community Christmas advertises Christmas-time events right across the UK in a directory on the Re-engage website.

Community groups, charities, pubs, lunch clubs, cafes, and other organizations all sign up with their details and we help to make sure that older people get to hear about the events and can find them easily through our bespoke online directory.

And if an older person needs help getting in touch with someone about an event on Christmas Day itself, then they can call the Re-engage office and we’ll help make the connection.

We are reaching out to let you know that our community Christmas website and event database will go live in November.

Are you planning an event around the Christmas period (we will advertise events that are taking place 18th December – 1st January)?

Or are you hosting a lunch or activity on Christmas day itself?

Even if your event is not aimed specifically at older people we will advertise it for you on the database as long as it is accessible for an older person.

Click on the link below to find out more and complete the online form on our website. Check out our FAQs page for more specific information

So as you may know the Thriving North Lambeth is hosting a Christmas Event and Black Prince Trust is looking for volunteers please email here if you're able to help out!

News From Carers Hub www.lambethcarerscard.org "Do you support someone with an illness, disability, mental health problem or addiction, that relies on that support? If so, who supports you? That is where Lambeth Carers Card can come in. The Lambeth Carers Card is an avenue of support available to unpaid carers aged 18 +. Through this scheme, we link informal carers with information about what is going on for carers in our community. As well as contingency planning for emergencies and free digital resources. Designed to make caring a little less stressful and a lot more organized.

Check out our animation here, or sign up via www.lambethcarerscard.org. Lambeth Carers Card was at Gracefield Gardens for the Autumn Advice Fair and it was great to be out in the community.

We are keen to reach more people in Streatham so if you host a local group or attend one that you think members would be interested to find out more about Carers’ Hub Lambeth or Lambeth Carers Card. we’d be delighted to come along, whether that’s online or face to face. Lambeth Carers Card is provided by Carers’ Hub Lambeth and MYsocial. Carers’ Hub Lambeth is an independent charity that provides one-to-one meetings tailored to your needs, groups where you can meet other carers, events hosting professionals, and ad-hoc training courses. If you would like to learn more about Carers’ Hub Lambeth please visit our website - www.carershub.org.uk or you can call us on 020 7501 8970 or email connect@carershub.org.uk." Lavender Hope and The Christmas Bonanza!

The Christmas Bonanza is an event for all the family see below!

Lavender Hope also runs a lot of community projects that you can find in the link above.

We welcome anyone that wants to volunteer and help assist our lead facilitators.

If there’s anything, in particular, they want to do at the community center we will support them with that, whether it’s because they want to improve their skills or simply want to be out of the house and in a positive environment.

Christmas with Age UK Lambeth!

This year we are tackling loneliness in Lambeth by delivering meals and gifts to older people spending Christmas alone.

Please give what you can and make someone's Christmas https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/AUKLChristmas2021
